What’s the theme song of those on the highway to hell? I’m convinced it is Frank Sinatra’s recording of the 1968 Paul Anka song, “My Way.” Here are the lyrics:
And now, the end is here And so I face the final curtain My friend, I'll say it clear I'll state my case, of which I'm certain I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and ev'ry highway And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had my fill, my share of losing And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing To think, I did all that And may I say, not in a shy way "Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"
For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels The record shows I took the blows and did it my way! Jesus warned of the highway to hell. He said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13, 14). The vast majority of those whom you and I know, even the religious ones, are on Broad Street, the highway to hell. Why are they on Broad Street? They’re on Broad Street because they have chosen to live life “my way” and not God’s way. Their pride keeps them from humbling themselves and receiving Christ as the all-sufficient payment for their sins. Without Him they are doomed.
When all is said and done, the only thing that matters is whether or not you and I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is He our Treasure? Is He all we’re clinging to? “Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee... Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy Cross I cling.” Sinners, including sexual sinners, need to find Christ as their all-sufficient treasure. In the end nothing else matters.
