Happy New Year! Don’t say that too glibly. You will choose whether it will or won’t be a happy new year by your attitude toward the people, events, and circumstances that come your way this year. As Chuck Swindoll wrote many years ago, "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes." You are in charge of your attitude. No one can make you have a lousy attitude. You choose that all on your own. Why am I writing that? Because we live in a world in which many see themselves as helpless victims who have no choice. Hardly. We choose our behaviors, attitudes, and words. We are in charge of all three. You are a victim when you have no choice whatsoever. For example, when another car runs a red light and rams you, then you are the victim of a traffic accident. You had no choice. You were rammed. If you have a choice in a situation, you are not a victim. What does this have to do with the purity ministry? Just this, no one makes a man or woman sin. We choose to sin all on our own. We may have had poor parental models, hung with the wrong crowd, or had an abusive spouse, but the fact remains that we choose how we will respond. We are not helpless victims without a choice. The National Coalition For Purity exists to equip and empower men, women, and teens to make right choices. We believe that men, women, and teens can and will choose to obey God and “purify themselves, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:3). We are not helpless victims of the world, the flesh, or the devil. We have a choice. Choose to purify yourself this year! Choose to have a godly attitude toward others this year! Choose to accept responsibility for your behaviors, attitudes, and words this year! Living in purity is a choice.
